🌺 The Poppy Prairie Cup
The Poppy Prairie Cup is where Polish folk dance meets ballroom competition — the first event of its kind in the U.S., organized by United in Dance.
It celebrates our favorite national dances — Krakowiak, Kujawiak, Oberek, Mazur, and Polonez, with Polka as a bonus category.
👯♀️ Who Can Dance
Dancers can compete as pairs (boy/girl or girl/girl) or in groups, with categories for all ages and experience levels — from kids and beginners to seasoned folk pros.
💃 Competition Format
There are two types of rounds:
Single Dance: one style performed on its own
Multidance: a short series of two to four dances performed back-to-back
Each “heat” (round) lasts about 1–1.5 minutes.
👉 Want a visual? Check out this competition to see how it works!🏅 How It’s Judged
Competitors are scored on rhythm, technique, style, and overall vibe — it’s about both skill and spirit.
There are three experience levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold.🇵🇱 Why It’s Special
This style of competition is already popular in Poland — and now, for the first time, it’s coming to America.
In short?
It’s a full day of Polish energy, music, and movement — and we’re here for it. 🎶putting together a team to join the fun. -
Who can join?
Anyone ages 6–60+ — from beginners to experienced dancers.Do I need a partner?
Ideally, yes — you’d come with your own partner (boy/girl or girl/girl duets are both welcome). But if you don’t have one, no worries! We’ll do our best to match you with someone.Do I need my own choreography?
You can enter with your own choreography or ask us to help!
If you’d like guidance, we’ll work with you to create or refine your routine. Rehearsals can take place in the Chicagoland area or virtually, depending on what works best for you. What do I need to submit?
A short 15–30 second video showing the dance category you’d like to enter — just give us a taste of your style and favorite move. What’s included?
Your entry ticket is sponsored by Oberek & Co, and every dancer receives a required Oberek & Co team t-shirt.Can I join more than one category?
Yes! You can compete in multiple dances as long as time and event rules allow. Is it serious or just for fun?
Both — we’re here to dance, represent, and have a good time doing it.
Apply to be on the team!
